The MTA is looking for members to reach out to fellow educators about what it means to be All In for the union and to educate parents and other community allies to help pass the Fair Share Amendment in November.
What Should You Know?
- In 2010, we took a 0% which impacted every employee. We sacrificed when the economy was failing and now is the time to reinvest. We need to attract and retain good, highly qualified, properly certified teachers to protect the quality of our schools. The combination of a high number of upcoming retirements with the unaffordable cost of living (COLA) on the island, makes offering a competitive salary essential. With inflation rates soaring, our previously negotiated wages did not keep up with the cost of living so we need to get a fair increase. The Social Security Administration increased COLA by 5.9%. A recent MV Times article outlines that the housing challenge has reached crisis level and what that means for health care on MV. Just as health care workers can’t afford to live on MV, our educators and support staff can’t afford to live on

This form can be used for up to 5 days of COVID related sick time, beginning May 28, 2021 through April 1, 2022.
